M01 - Retired

I loved everything about this bike when I got it.

Stats:
Mongoose XR-350
MSRP $298.99, paid $150 cash.

Equipment:
It was all stock when it broke.
I'm not exactly sure what it came with.

I didn't have a picture of the bike when I owned it so I dug around and found an internet picture.

M01 was my pride and joy. It was the first "real" mountain bike and my first "real" bike period. I don't care if the bike was purchased from Walmart.

I got M01 for my birthday in 2001(I think). I saw it in the wrack and showed my mom. There happened to be a toy department manager back there and saw me look at it. He said, "Yeah that's been up there for a while now. I think it's discontinued. I'll give it to you half price if you want." He got it down and I was stoked: I got a $300 bike for half price.

Well M01 lasted for 3-4 months before I broke the frame on it. It wasn't a weld, it was one of the chainstays(Probably why it was discontinued). We took it back to Walmart and of course they didn't have another one on hand to exchange it with. We were allowed to pick out a "comparably priced bike". I had one picked out, but they realized that we gave half price for the bike we brought back and they limited us to a $150 bike. That $150 bike is M02 and it's been nothing but a thorn in my side since I got it home.
